About Katherine Valentine Hannon

I began writing professionally at age seventeen as a youth correspondent for the Salem (Oregon) Statesman-Journal. Since that time, my feature and news articles have appeared in the Bend (Oregon) Bulletin, the Medford (Oregon) Mail Tribune and in regional magazines. I strive to create compelling features that build understanding for the vulnerable and disadvantaged in society, as well as in-depth articles that detail the creative process for artists, musicians, writers and performers.

After earning undergraduate art degrees at the Colorado Institute of Art and Western Oregon University, I completed a graduate degree in Cultural Services and Arts Administration from the University of Oregon. I served as Arts Education Coordinator for Lane Regional Arts Council and the Arts Council of Southern Oregon, bringing writers, artists and performers to public schools. As Executive Director of the Sunriver Music Festival, I was responsible for managing all aspects of a nationally recognized music festival. In all these positions, I wrote feature articles and promotional copy, and provided interviews for print, radio and television. I've also served as a marketing consultant for not-for-profit organizations, writing and designing press packets, newsletters, brochures and flyers.

Long involved with promoting reading in public schools, I've served as coordinator for two literacy programs that link struggling students with reading mentors and provide free books to disadvantaged children. I enjoy creating school literacy events that bring families together to share a love for reading.
